DIALOGUE, INTIMACY, APPROPRIATION

With a creative desire and impulse, Laura Leal explores her creative universe and renders it unto us after having delved into the depths of her being, bringing it forth, pouring it on us, and showing us what it knows and not of itself, materializing the internal, mystical and deep voices urging her on to relentlessly create.
In her work, we perceive that intense need to express and materialize the universe that possesses her and is part of her innermost self. That universe she shares with us after having passed it through the sieve of her intellectual rigor. And thus, she leaves it impressed with the rich materials she works with, to wit, wood, stone and rock crystal, transforming them into fantastic masterfully crafted sculptures endowed with movement. Folds, arches, bends, hollows, and round shapes endow the sculptured works of Laura Leal with sensuous elegance and a language of their own.
Laura Leal, the sculptor, has great force. She traps us in her 3-dimensionality, in her shapes, in the way she handles space and lights and shadows, and with those combinations of materials that, in some cases, seem to blend with each other, producing those different nuances that can be interpreted in a thousand ways, and which convey in no uncertain terms, sensations capable of filling us with great energy or inner peace.
Laura sets out on her quest for materials. She scans all fields and spaces, although I sometimes get the impression that it is her materials which, transformed and transmuted, by her potent-virtuous hands, into extraordinarily beautiful pieces, bear witness to her great skill as a carver and polisher, –and in one word– to the grace and strength of her work seasoned by exquisite sensitivity.
Her deepest language is in the essence of the existence of the sculpture. It is the contact with her inner world, her past, her present, what she experiences now, but looks to the future and wishes to share with the us beholders where we touch and feel and caress each of her works, and sense the essential flow of the artist.
This Laura Leal exhibition is a token of recognition for her creative work. For her, it means the possibility that her sculptures will enter into a deep dialogue with the beholder. We, the beholders, the viewers, are a fundamental part of her artistic creation, perhaps the closing end, or the final part. It's the moment when I take over the work, I make it mine, and establish an intimate dialogue with her. I am certain that Laura Leal's work has a lot to tell each and every one of us.

Con un deseo-impulso creativo, Laura Leal explora y nos entrega su universo tras sumergirse en su interior más profundo para volcarlo, para extraerlo, para mostrarnos aquello que conoce y desconoce de sí misma, para materializar esas voces internas, místicas y profundas que la conminan a no cejar en su impulso creativo.
En su obra advertimos esa intensa necesidad de expresar y materializar, ese universo, que la posee y que es parte de lo más profundo de su ser. Ese universo del cual nos hace partícipes, tras haberlo tamizado por su rigor intelectual. Así lo deja plasmado en sus ricos materiales de trabajo que principalmente son: madera, piedra y cristal de roca, transformados ahora en fantásticas esculturas, poseedoras de un dinamismo que les da ese movimiento que sabe imprimirles con maestría. Pliegues, arqueamientos, torceduras, oquedades y redondeces que dotan a la obra de Laura Leal de sensualidad y elegancia, y le otorgan un lenguaje propio.
La escultura de Laura Leal, poseedora de gran fuerza, nos atrapa en su tridimensionalidad, en sus formas, con su manejo del espacio y de sus luces y sombras y esas combinaciones de materiales, que, en algunos casos, parecieran fundirse el uno con el otro, dándole esos diferente matices que pueden tener un sin fin de interpretaciones, que nos transmiten, no en pocas ocasiones, sensaciones, capaces de invadirnos de una gran energía o de una gran paz interior.
Laura se lanza a la búsqueda de sus materiales, escudriña en muy variados terrenos y espacios, aunque a veces tengo la percepción de que son sus materiales quienes la encuentran a ella: troncos de mezquite, sabino, caoba, cedro o ébano y bloques de basalto, mármol, granito, alabastro y últimamente, cristales de roca. Estos materiales son transformados, transfigurados, transmutados por las potentes-virtuosas manos de la artista, en piezas de extraordinaria belleza que dan cuenta de su gran oficio en el tallado, en el pulimentado, en un palabra, en la delicadeza y la fuerza de su trabajo condimentado con una exquisita sensibilidad.
Su lenguaje más profundo está en la esencia de la existencia de su escultura, es el contacto con su mundo interior, con su pasado, con su presente, que vive ahora pero ve al futuro y que desea compartir con el espectador. Cuando tocamos, cuando sentimos y acariciamos cada una de sus obras, se siente el fluir esencial de la artista.
Esta exposición de Laura Leal es un reconocimiento a su labor creativa, para ella es la posibilidad de que sus piezas entren en un diálogo profundo con el espectador. Nosotros, los espectadores, somos una parte fundamental de la creación artística, tal vez el remate o la parte final, es el momento en el que yo me apropio de la obra, la vuelvo mía y establezco un diálogo íntimo con ella. Estoy seguro que la obra de Laura Leal tiene mucho que decirnos a cada uno de nosotros.
